Biography: Charles Ernie Moore

Charles E. Moore spent a large portion of his life in civil service. He not only served many terms in the Village of Hampton, but also He also served as Mayor of Silvis on the Democratic ticket from 1938 to 1942 (four years).
Mr. Moore was born in Buffalo, Iowa, on September 21, 1877, and married Agnes Sauerberg in Davenport on October 11, 1900. He was a member of the Silvis Masonic Lodge, A.F.&A.M., the Moline Turners, and the Edward Kittelson post, Spanish American War Veterans of Moline. He served as a private in the 50th Iowa Infantry.
For a short time, he worked as the Silvis Postmaster but resigned due to poor eyesight. In 1936, he was appointed jailer at the county jail to succeed Monroe Hanneman, who had assumed the postmastership of Silvis, vacated by Moore. He was involved with the Democratic committee in Hampton Township for eight years and worked as a guard at the McLaughlin Body Company in Moline until his death in 1944. He is buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Moline
