The Hampton Historical Society graciously received each issue and kept them filed away until they were recently discovered. Since Hampton History is anything that occurred before today, we decided these precious articles deserve a place in the public sphere. Each article is therefore available to our readers.
The compilation of papers below is coded as follows: The HTC prefix is for “Hampton Towne Crier”, and the 6-digit numbers are the issue date (i.e., 199103 = March of 1991).
Ye Olde Hampton Towne Crier was a local monthly newspaper published in Hampton, Illinois (Rock Island County) from April 1990 through June/July 1993 by Bill and Carol Doose. Issued monthly except in July, the publication ran for four volumes—from Year 1, Vol. 1 to Year 4, Vol. 35—before transitioning to its successor title, The Hampton Towne Crier. Cataloged under Library of Congress Control Number sn2003061829 and OCLC number 52763749.
The Hampton Towne Crier is the follow-on newspaper to the Ye Olde Hampton Towne Crier, which was published monthly until it transitioned to the new title in August 1993 under publishers Mike and Stacey Graham. After switching to a bimonthly schedule in late 2002, the paper covered local community news and events for the Hampton region, with archived records cataloged under Library of Congress Control Number sn2003061812 and OCLC Number 52252900.
To my knowledge, there is no copyright infringement. The paper has been out of circulation for nearly 20 years.
